“I think confidence is the problem with Hojlund,” Shearer told Match of the Day. “Three goals in the Premier League and now I think he doesn’t really want to be there.”
“He was maybe a second too fast or a second too slow and his timing was all wrong. I think there’s no doubt he’s had a crisis of confidence – he’s played in a really difficult situation for the club, where if you’re not top-notch you have to be really good to be a leader in attack for the club.”
“He’s not at the stage where he should be in his career. I’m not saying there are bad players in the team. I think there are good players. But the pressure he’s under in terms of doing what he can’t do and the price tag, he’s not ready to lead at the moment.”
