Delayed ejaculation

Delayed ejaculation is a sexual disorder that can take different forms. It is also identified as inhibition of orgasm in men, ejaculatory disability, or even anemia without orgasm.

Depending on the case, despite repeated and adequate sexual stimulation, the man ejaculates after a very long time with the feeling of a “laborious” act or ejaculation can not happen (we speak then of anejaculation). If ejaculation takes place, it is accompanied by the pleasurable sensations of orgasm. It may be a temporary difficulty; We talk about disorder if this problem is permanent.

Delayed ejaculation, a rare disorder

Delayed ejaculation is infrequent: it accounts for 3% of male sexual disorders and affects 0.4% of the male population.

Different levels of the disorder can be distinguished:

  • The man has never been able to ejaculate.
  • Man can only ejaculate during masturbation.
  • The man can ejaculate alone and during masturbation or fellatio with his partner.
  • The man can ejaculate but only if the coitus is very long.

Because of delayed ejaculation, sexual intercourse can, therefore, last very long. Despite everything, the partner is frustrated, because she wants the orgasm of her companion. Sometimes, man mimics orgasm, and the disorder becomes apparent only in case of the desire of the child.

Distinguishing a primary and secondary disorder

We speak of a dominant disorder if delayed ejaculation exists from the beginning of sexuality. Delayed ejaculation is often a disease that occurs in a person who otherwise has other personality inhibitions, other communication difficulties, and laxity. Intrapsychic conflicts are often involved. Psychotherapy will allow the man to evolve in all his difficulties to live. Sometimes the disorder is more superficial: the man comes alone to masturbate but in a way not reproducible during coitus (blows on the penis, need of stimulation with an adamant tightening of the penis). In this case, he will have to find another path to pleasure and orgasm.

The disorder is sometimes secondary if it occurs after a period of sexuality without the difficulty of ejaculation. Very often, in this case, a stressful event preceded the onset of the disorder. It can be a very stressful episode of sexual life (for example, a partner’s infidelity) or a fact that occurs during a sexual act (be surprised in this activity for example). The recovery of ejaculatory abilities will be gradual, with the return of confidence and relaxation.

Organic causes are rare and distinct

The cases of natural causes for delayed ejaculation are clearly identified:

Sometimes it is neurological disorders, especially medullary in the case of traumatic paraplegia or declared multiple sclerosis.

The problem may occur after some critical operations of the prostate or bladder. In this case, the ejaculation disorder is often accompanied by erectile dysfunction. Sometimes the difficulty is transitory.

The disorder may also be a side effect of absorption of certain drugs: neuroleptics, antidepressants or hypotension. This is called iatrogenic delayed ejaculation.

Retrograde ejaculation: a different problem

In retrograde ejaculation, it occurs without difficulty, the man feels the sensations of enjoyment of the orgasm, but the sperm does not escape by the urethral meatus (orifice located at the end of the penis). This problem often occurs after surgery on the prostate or bladder; It may also be linked to neurological disorders or certain medications.

Tips to treat delayed ejaculation

Do not hesitate to consult a sex therapist who will certainly help you resolve the problem. However, you can always try for yourself the next step, but of course only if there is no physiological impossibility to ejaculation.

The disorder never resolves directly. For ejaculation to be possible during coitus, it must first be possible otherwise. The following progress should be followed:

  • The possibility of ejaculating alone by masturbation.
  • Possibility to ejaculate by masturbation in the presence of his partner and with more or less help.
  • Conduct the excitement close to the ejaculation by caresses and realize the vaginal penetration at the last moment.
  • Alternate sexual caresses and vaginal penetration.

If this does not work, do not insist too much time. The therapeutic work with a sexologist will help you more plainly than these tips.
